Which to choose: Stroller Wagon or Double Pushchair?

With more families in the UK expanding their fold with multiple children, it can be a tricky one to know where to invest your money when it comes getting out and about! With an ever-expanding choice of strollers, prams, pushchairs and wagons on the market - and different lifestyles to consider - let's delve into the details to help you to make an informed decision.

Weight and Age Capacities

If you have a small age gap where they will grow up together, there are many options available. Many popular double prams have a weight capacity of around 22kg per seat (making it 44kg in total) and generally last until the children are 4 years old, whereas wagons such as the WonderFold W4 Luxe can hold up to 136kg in total and can accommodate much older kids.

This means that it will last longer and you can also transport much more stuff with them. If you have children that are a little older and also don't want to SIT still, the seats can be removed from the WonderFold to let them stand (but of course, we do not recommend this when the wagon is in motion and only with the brake bar applied). If children are younger, it can also be used for napping when out and about (again, only recommended when seats have been removed and brake is applied).

If you have a newborn you may think that a pram with a bassinet attachment is your only option, but did you know that the WonderFold accessories also include a newborn car seat attachment? Meaning that even the youngest in your fold can enjoy the ride.

Storage Space

Stroller wagons typically offer more space and capacity compared to double pushchairs. With the ability to accommodate multiple children, along with extra storage for essentials such as diaper bags and snacks, stroller wagons are a practical choice for families who go on regular, long days out or UK based holidays! The WonderFold wagons have ample space under the seats themselves, alongside the basket, cargo net and parent console options for additional belongings.

You can, of course, find sizeable baskets and storage for double pushchairs, but you are more limited and they can tip if overloaded around the back. WonderFold's are much more sturdy and have an anti-tipping design.

Manoeuvrability

Double pushchairs are designed for easy manoeuvrability, making them a convenient option for navigating crowded spaces such as small villages or towns. On the other hand, some may find that stroller wagons seems a little bulkier and less agile, requiring more effort to steer and turn. This will all depend on personal preference when push comes to shove though, and it's worth trying some options in store to find the best fit for your own style.

Comfort and Safety

Both stroller wagons and double pushchairs prioritise the comfort and safety of young children. However, stroller wagons often come with many more additional features such as padded seats, canopies, weather covers for all occasions and more - providing a more luxurious and secure ride. As already mentioned, the seats can also be removed from many stroller wagons which will provide more space for comfort. Many double prams do have the option to recline the seats, so again, it's whatever suits you and your children the best,

Stroller wagons are also being preferred more frequently by SEND children to act as a 'safe space' on the go. You can find out more about this and our WonderFold Warrior programme here.

Ultimately, the choice between a stroller wagon and a double pushchair depends on your specific needs and preferences. Consider factors such as space, manoeuvrability, comfort, and versatility. Both options have their own unique benefits, so choose the one that best suits your lifestyle and the needs of your young children.
